Have a Happy, Healthy Heart!

I had a chat with my friend last week and she mentioned that she rushed an employee to a hospital near their office. She was working as a Quality Assurance officer in a call center and this was not the first time she encountered incident like this. The employee had a mild stroke. It could have been grave if he was not immediately rushed to the hospital. Thank God for the Girl Scout in my friend.

Nowadays, more and more people are having diseases concerning the heart. Strokes could not only happen to older people. As I see it, even young adult can get this disease. How can we avoid this? By eating food rich in Omega 3, or by taking Omega 3 health supplements. Studies shows that Omega 3 reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke, helps in lowering blood pressure, prevent the buildup of plaque in the arteries, and may prevent sudden cardiac death.

I didn’t know the importance of Omega 3 until I’ve read about it. And now that we know its benefits, we should also know where we can get it. There are a number of sources of Omega 3 available including fatty fish and health food supplements like Omax3.

But remember that when purchasing Omega 3 health supplements, make sure that you are purchasing pharmaceutical grade Omega 3 because cheaper, non-pharmaceutical grade brands may have mercury-contaminants and other dangerous substances that can harm your body. Omax3 is 91% pure omega-3. It’s real pharmaceutical-grade supplement which offers optimal, pure and high potency essential fatty acids and DFA. Enhances moods and cognition, benefits healthy heart, and promotes optimal health of joint and immune system.

Start taking Omega 3 supplements now and have a happy and healthy heart.

Public School, Christian School, or Home School?

http://graceforyou.com/files/My%20Sample%20Gallery/Preschool.jpg

Now that my daughter is turning three this year, the thought of sending her to school is one that's on my mind. I've already inquired with some schools and I was surprised to know how much would it cost me to send her to a good school. But Mr. Sala was true in this article:

An excerpt from Raising Godly Kids by Harold J. Sala

Should you pull your youngster out of the secular system and put him into a Christian school? Many parents do--some at great financial cost--because they are convinced that putting their children in a school where God is in and evolution is out, where the days open with prayer, and where teachers are compassionate and caring is worth the personal sacrifice; knowing that their youngster will receive a solid academic foundation. So they make do with fewer clothes, longer working hours and lesser spendings, believing that their sacrifice will someday be rewarded.

Another option that has recently taken off like a locomotive running downhill is home schooling. For years I was not very excited about private Christian education or home schooling. I felt that we as Christians need to be salt and light out there in the world where we can make a difference with our witness.

But as our culture darkened, sinister forces began to make our schools unsafe, and educational competence declined, I began to see how important private Christian schools can be. Knowing that a child is in a Christian environment where teachers are there because of commitment to Christians ideals is important. Teachers in Christian schools are usually motivated by their desire to make a difference in the lives of their students.

Why object to home schooling? I was not sure that all moms could handle it academically, an issue which is still of some concern. I thought that only a superwoman could be teacher, mother and disciplinarian all wrapped up in one. I was also concerned about the youngster's social development. But a growing home school movement brings mothers together, provides social outlets for the kids and provides the youngsters an education that far exceeds anything public education can offer.

Home schooling frees a child from social competition--the "I've-got-to-be-just-like-everybody-else" mentality. It allows him an opportunity to follow Sir Edmund Hillary's wild ride in the ice and snow of the South Pole, retrace the route of the Lewis and Clark expedition or invent the incandescent globe, as Thomas Edison did.

I'm convinced that it can be very beneficial to the student as well as the mother, provided she has the temperament, the education and the time to handle the challenge.

If you have options, explore them fully. Make a list of pros and cons for each one. Lay them before the Lord and say, "Father, this child is a gift from You, and I want to help equip him to know You, love You and serve You all his life. Now, Lord, what's the best thing for us all?"

Insight:
Your child is going to get an education regardless of what happens. It may be one of academic excellence or mediocrity. however, no matter how good or poor the school system he may be in, your input as a parent makes a tremendous difference.

Isang Pag-alaala

I've been hearing this in my favorite radio station and searched for a copy in the net and I'm lucky to have found one. I've read this several times and I've seen this posted in a number of blogs already. But I want to post it here as well. The memories of the past...

Naalala mo pa ba?

Si Nanay ay nasa bahay pag-uwi namin galing sa paaralan;
Walang mga bakod at gate ang magkakapit-bahay,
kung meron, gumamela lang;

10 sentimos o diyes lang ang baon: singko sa umaga, singko sa hapon;

o kaya sa tumana;

Grabe na ang kaso pag napatawag ka sa principal's office o kaya malaking kahihiyan kapag bagsak ka sa exams;

Mayroon kaming mga laruan na gawa namin at hindi binili:trak- trakan (gawa sa rosebowl ang katawan at darigold na maliit ang mga gulong, "sketeng" (scooter) na bearing na maingay ang mga gulong at de-sinkong pako para sa preno;

May dagta ang dulo ng tinting na hawak mo para makahuli tutubi, nandadakma ka ng palakang tetot, pero ingat ka sa palakang saging dahil sa kulugo;

Butas na ang sakong ng Spartan mong tsinelas - suot mo pa rin;

Tayo noon... Doon ...
Tinutukoy ko ang harang taga o tumbang preso kapag maliwanag ang buwan;

Pag-akyat natin sa mga puno; pagkakabit ng kulambo, lundagan sa kama ;
Pagtikwas o pagtitimba sa poso; pingga ang pang-igib ng lalake at may dikin naman ang ulo ng babae;

Karera sa takbuhan hanggang maubos ang hininga; pagtawa hanggang sumakit ang tiyan;
Meron pa bang himbabao, kulitis at pongapong?

Mapagod sa kakalaro, minsan mapalo; matakot sa "berdugo" at sa "kapre";

Pwede ring ang sukli ay kending Vicks (meron pang libreng singsing) o kaya nougat o karamel; Kung gusto mo naman - pakumbo o kaya kariba, mas masaya kung inuyat;

Halo-halo: yelo, asukal at gatas lang ang sahog;

Lipstick mo ay papel de hapon;
Labaha ang gamit para sa white-side-wall na gupit;

NAglululon ka ng banig pagkagising;
matigas na amirol ang mga punda at kumot;

Masaya noon at masaya pa rin tayo ngayon habang
ina-alaala iyon...

Awit muna: Penpen de Serapen, de kutsilyo, de almasen. How how the
carabao batuten...

Presidente ng klase ay ang pinakamagaling, hindi ang pinaka-mayaman;
Masaya na tayo basta sama-sama kahit hati-hati sa kokonti;
Nauubos ang oras natin sa pagku-kwentuhan, may oras tayo sa isat-isa;
Naaasar ka kapag marami kang sunog sa sungka;

Di natutulog si Inay, nagbabantay pag may trangkaso tayo;
KAPAYAPAAN!

;) Pustahan tayo nakangiti ka pa rin!;)

What's on my mind

This morning this was the last thing I remember... I was dreaming about our house. This is what happens when your mind is filled with something...you can even dream about it. :D

This weekend, we will be visiting the village and see how the construction progresses. I'm hoping to see good development.

Noticed that I've been writing posts regarding paints and house ideas? It's because of this. But I promise that I'll post more discoveries here as time goes. By the way, hope you can visit ted's blog as it needs promotions as well.

Ciao!

More about paint ideas.

Read this from this site and thought of posting part of it here to remind me when needed. :)

Red

Red walls will increase a room energy level. You will never see red walls in a prison for that reason. Red can be consider for your bedroom ideas to increase activities at night, but don’t paint the elderly person’s room red. Red has been shown to raise blood pressure, speed respiration and heart rate

Yellow
Yellow is good for kitchen walls and bathrooms, it is uplifting and creates a feeling of sunshine. In living rooms, yellow can feel expansive and invigorating. Yellow is believed to stimulate the nerves and purify the body.

Green
Green is a relaxing and peaceful color. That’s why people go to gardens to relax and seek calmness. Green can be painted in almost any room in the house. In a kitchen, a sage or medium green cools things down; in a family room or living room, it encourages unwinding and also promote comfort and togetherness. It is believed to relieve stress by helping people relax.

Have you noticed my craze for paint ideas? Yeah..because we'll have our own house soon and I want to make it as colorful as appropriate.

Paint Ideas?

What color is your house, the room and other spaces inside your house? I’ve read once that deciding about the color of a house and rooms is an important thing. Properly wielded color can create atmosphere, it can define proportion, and depth, it can aid in establishing physical order, and most definitely exudes emotions and personality.

Do you know what color is best for a particular room? First you must decide what ambiance you want for a space, then use the appropriate colors with their correct tones to achieve that particular mood.

Here are some ambiance and their suggested space and colors from Earth and Style Magazine, March 2007 edition.

Playful: To bring a feeling of energy, it is best to use primary colors. Red, sky blue, and mango yellow fuel the young and old alike with a mood for fun. Although they are basic colors, they create a strong impact, seemingly walking one’s inner liveliness. Use these color schemes for children’s bedrooms and play areas.

Romantic: To emphasize intimacy in your bedroom, use color schemes that exude a mood for romance. While hot pink, fuchsia and red offer an intense romantic ambiance, a soft touch of rose pink and neutrals provide a more demure, feminine side of sweetness. These colors also go well with caramels and cocoa browns.

Tranquil: For a spa effect in your bathrooms, soft blues and greens are the best colors to use. Soft blues remind us of the peaceful quality of water while cool greens reflect the comfort of nature. Blue greens, in tones of jade, teal or aqua, can give either a warm or cool character too. These can easily transform any space into a serene room that will leave anyone feeling relaxed. This scheme is always beneficial to those with busy lifestyles.

Sophisticated: Rich earth colors are used to convey a feeling of formality. There is elegance in deep reds, lush greens and refined yellows, while purples and rich blues denote mystery and opulence, respectively. Together with dark wood tones, these hues result in sophistication in style. Use this scheme in foyers and living areas to impart a warm welcome to guests.

Charming: A cheerful atmosphere that lifts anyone’s spirit cam be achieved by bringing the colors of the outdoors inside the house. Apple greens and light yellow best reflect the hues of a garden while chartreuse and leaf green evoke freshness and bliss. These cool colors are light on the eye, enhancing a festive, invigorating mood. Use these colors in kitchens and transitional areas with large picture windows to maintain the mood of a view outdoors.

Reduce That.

Let's talk about Breast Reduction....When most of the girls are fancying over a bigger cup size, some girls are looking on theirs not as an asset but a burden. Some are troubled by shoulder and back pains while some are getting overly self conscious. Some girls are even having a hard time buying outfits because of this. To solve this problem, they go for breast reduction.

I remember a local movie actress here underwent breast reduction after giving birth. And I think she has valid reasons to do that. She was complaining on back pains since prior to getting married she already has scoliosis. And the pain she’s feeling became worse since she’s also breastfeeding. She also needs to return to work so it’s her last option. When I heard that, this question came to mind…after the surgery, how can she breastfeed her son? Anyway, that’s a problem she was able to manage.

Here in the Philippines, there are lots of clinics which offer cosmetic surgeries. There were also some who are very well known in the country where most showbiz personalities visit. In the UK MYA or Make Yourself Amazing is one of the clinics that specialize on these kinds of surgeries. People go here because they offer affordable and flexible financial package for their patients. They are also composed of skilled and experienced surgeons providing their clients the best service they deserve.

I’m not against cosmetic surgery as long at it is really necessary. Cosmetic surgeries like facial restoration or reconstruction and breast reduction are some of the options that can be beneficial as well as essential. It cannot only changed the look of the person but developed and improved their personalities, as well as their outlooks in life.

Avoid House Traffic

I was browsing some magazines about home designs and paint ideas when I cam across this article from Good Housekeeping. Here are some helpful tips specially to those who own their homes and want to avoid or stop “traffic” inside the house.

The Bathroom:
  • Make it strictly-toiletries-only space. Clutter builds when the counter doubles as dresser or vanity table.
  • Place a multi-level wore rack and some towel hooks in one area so you don’t have to go a-searching for your bathing needs.
  • Don’t stock your lines and tissue rolls here.

The Kitchen:
  • Assign a space at the counter for putting all ingredients so you’ll only have to work within that area.
  • Frequently used items like pots, pans, and spices should be near the preparation area.
  • Position the refrigerator in such a way that the door does not open into the doorway.
  • Keep the aisle space clear of trash bins, pet dishes, etc.

The Living Room:
  • Decide which activities the living room is for. For entertainment? For hobbies? This way you can limit the pieces according to the area’s function.
  • Free the coffee table of clutter. Put an attractive centerpiece that you can easily transfer when you need space.

The Dining Area:
  • Use the walls for displaying pieces instead of adding side tables
  • Keep nothing but dining items in this room. This prevents family members from using it as a makeshift study.

Now these will surely help me once our house was turned over to us. I’m excited.

2009 Philippine Holidays

Got this from an email courtesy of ABS-CBN:

There will be 10 long holidays in 2009.

Last Christmas eve, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed Proclamation 1699 that lays out the holiday schedule this year.

First on the holiday list is a three-day weekend before the Easter break.

The observance of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) on April 9 (Thursday) was moved to the nearest Monday which is April 6.

This will be followed by the Easter holidays from April 9 (Maundy Thursday) until April 12 (Easter Sunday).

The other regular holidays are:

•Labor Day-May 1(Friday);
•Independence Day- June 12 (Friday);
•National Heroes Day- August 31 (Monday);
•Bonifacio Day - November 30 (Monday);
•Christmas Day- December 25 (Friday); and,
•Rizal Day- December 30 (Wednesday).

Arroyo declared the following as Special Non-Working Days:

•Ninoy Aquino Day - August 21 (Friday);
•All Saints Day - November 1 (Sunday) and All Soul’s Day - November 2 (Monday);
•Christmas Eve - December 24 (Thursday); and,
•New Year’s Eve - December 31 (Thursday).
The president has long been implementing holiday economics to boost domestic tourism and allow Filipinos to have more time with their families.

Holiday economics entails the transfer of some holidays to a Monday or a Friday so that Filipinos may enjoy longer weekends.

Businessmen earlier complained over the recent two-week Christmas-New Year break.

However, MalacaƱang maintained consultations were made with all sectors concerned, including the business community, before issuing this year's holiday list.

Goodbye 2008, hello 2009!

Happy New Year Everyone!

And so we bid goodbye to 2008 and says hello to 2009. And with that I believe most of you are into making or "editing" your new year resolutions.

As for me I don't make new year resolutions. But to those of you who already made one, here's a site that will help you keep on track.

I learned about this when I was listening to my fave radio station and they suggested this site. Hiaspire.com.

Because we tend to forget about the promises ang goals we set during the new year, we need something to constantly remind us of those new year resolutions. Hiaspire will remind you of your resolutions through email. With that you can be sure that you'll be able to achieved your goals and met your resolutions throughout the year.

Lastly, let's thank God for His goodness during 2008 and let's continue to hope and pray for a blessed 2009 ahead of us.
