The Brown Raise Seminar

We had our Brown Raise seminar just a while ago. Our church had a job well-done. Everything was perfect. The two speakers, Sis. Anne Lao and Pastor Butch Conde delivered the most inspiring messages I've ever heard.

I can almost feel Sis. Anne Lao's burden to uplift the Filipino Raise. Her messages, stories told and examples were so inspiring that on some part, I almost cried. She also presented the film Bayaning Third World which I heard some time ago but neglected. It was a good film and I regret the fact that I did not watch it. I also learned that our national hero, Jose Rizal was indeed a protestant. There is even an issue of recantation that was also raised in the film Bayaning Thrd World. I think Rizal was like Martin Luther.

All in all it was a great seminar that I wished every Filipino will be able to hear. That's one of my prayer so that the Filipino race will not lose their pride and dignity as Filipinos and will love thier country like Rizal did.

What is the Brown Raise?

The Brown Raise is a movement to CREATE A NEW PATH for the Filipino people -- that his world need not always have to revolve around the shallowness of money, pleasure, and survival, but that he us also capable of remarkable character, dignity, honor, visions for humanity and depth of nationhood.

The Brown Raise is a movement that seeks to unlock the secrets and strengths of a race and country which was once called, "the pearl of the orient seas", and to discover and pursue the Philippines' unique contribution to the hall of nations.

The 21st century Global Pinoy must have the spirit of the Brown Raise...the same spirit that Rizal, our national hero possessed from childhood.

"As a child I was educated among Spaniards; I was nourished on the great exemplars of the history of Spain, of Greece and Rome; afterwards in Spain my professors were all great thinkers, great patriots. Books, newspapers, [historical] examples, reason, ALL MADE ME DESIRE THE GOOD OF MY NATIVE LAND...I was so far from thinking that I was doing wrong that I have never wanted to accept the protection of another nation; twice I was offered German nationality, once the English, and I have never accepted."

Avoid the Hassle

It's fourteen days before Christmas and I’m sure, some of us are on our way to the Christmas rush. By now, the malls and bazaars are jam-packed. Malls have already extended their mall hours to accommodated last minute shoppers. I can’t understand why some of us do this--last minute shopping. Maybe because of hectic schedules, or financial matters.

Here’s a tip. You can always avoid being caught in traffic or inside a jam pack mall in seasons like this by doing online shopping. Yes, I know a friend who benefits so much with shopping online. She was able to shop for her Christmas gifts without the fuss and hassles of going to the mall. I remember she was able to buy a PSP and Nintendo Wii online and other video game accessories for her son. And she was able to find them at Shopwiki.

When it comes to online shopping, shopwiki is one of the most reliable online shopping site because it can give you more results of the items you want to find since it crawls the web. Do you to shop for your clothes and accessories? Or baby items and kids apparel? How about items for your husband and sons? You can get good finds at shopwiki.

So go online shopping now with shopwiki.

The Spirit of Bear-iuca

Mariuca invited me to join in passing on the Spirit of Bear-iuca Meme

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there lived a powerful Genie Princess named Mariuca who was known throughout the land as the friendliest, most popular blogger in the blogosphere kingdom. Adored and admired by international visitors and commentators from around the world, the Genie Princess travels the blogosphere on her magical flying carpet, always looking for ways to share her good fortune with others.

Over the past two years of blogging, Mariuca has met so many new people, from all walks of life and all over the world, each one bringing a little of their culture and lifestyle when they visit and comment on Mariuca’s two sites. So on her 2nd Blog Anniversary, Mariuca wanted to celebrate with all of her international blogosphere buddies by hosting a bear-naming contests at Wishing On A Falling Star and Mariuca’s Perfume Gallery and to pass her two lucky, cuddly teddy bears along to the winners who came up with the best names.

On the opposite side of the world, from the moment Roxy (the prolific Roxiticus Desperate Housewives blogger) and her sweet daughters London and Maddie saw the teddy in his personalized t-shirt and blue muffler at Wishing On A Falling Star, they knew that he needed to come to live with their family in Mendham, NJ. The three New Jersey girls named him immediately and burst into a wonderful song for BEAR-iuca:

BEAR-iuca, BEAR-iuca, amazing teddy cheer.
BEAR-iuca, BEAR-iuca, we’d love you to come live here!

Mariuca received 16 possible names for the Mariuca Teddy Bear, making it hard for the Genie Princess to choose just one…then Alakazam! A bolt of lightning delivered the perfect way to share BEAR-iuca’s good fortune to bloggers around the globe. While the soft, stuffed, cuddly BEAR-iuca is on his way to live with Roxy, London, Maddie and Rex in the Roxiticus Valley, the Spirit of BEAR-iuca is racing through the blogosphere to bring happiness, holiday cheer, and beary best wishes to everyone who welcomes him into their online home and passes along the BEAR-iuca good luck charm to ten friends.

Please play along with us by following a few important rules:

If Santa's Real

Do you believe in Santa Claus? I don’t, but I wish there is really a real Santa Claus who can grant wishes of every people on earth, young and old. When I was a child I thought Santa was real. That he goes down the chimney to put his gifts under our Christmas tree. I later realized that the persons who fill my Christmas stocking with lots of goodies are none other than, my parents. Right. Funny. How could they do that to me? Hahaha!!!

Anyway, Christmas is near. Do you got a wish? Let say Santa is real, and he can grant your wish immediately, what will you wish for? Hmmm…tough question, right? Well, It’s a challenging question, I know. As for me, I can’t think of anything aside from materials things, like the digital camera and Iphone that I’ve been dreaming about. This is because I know that the one thing I want could not fit in his sack of gifts…it can’t be bought. Only God can make it happen. But if it’s only that easy to sit on Santa’s lap and ask him something like what I did at Ceiva’s, it would be great.

Yes, I was able to sit on Santa’s lap and wished for an iphone, but alas, it’s not available. He offered me a digital frame instead, hahaha! But Ceiva’s digital frame is a nice gift for Christmas. I’ve never seen any other digital frame like this. Its sleek design captured my eyes and made me wished to receive one like this on Christmas as well.

Well, anyway the site is actually having a contest where contestants can win $500. You just need to watch Santa’s video, fill in the needed info, upload a photo and wait if you will be picked out from the random raffle draw. So visit here, and play the game. Who knows, you might be the lucky contestant.

Sad news...

I didn't win the BDJ contest, tsk tsk tsk..that means I have to buy one for my self...

then, my PR was gone! huhuhuhu!!!!!

Blogger Personality Game

While doing mg regular EC dropping, I came across night click's blog and saw a fun game. It's called the blogger personality game. Actually it's not really a game, it's somewhat like a blog analyzer. You can type your blog's url here and after a second, you can have your result. So here's mine.

The Doers

The active and play-ful type. They are especially attuned to people and things around them and often full of energy, talking, joking and engaging in physical out-door activities.

The Doers are happiest with action-filled work which craves their full attention and focus. They might be very impulsive and more keen on starting something new than following it through. They might have a problem with sitting still or remaining inactive for any period of time.

Just want to post our group picture taken a while ago...We all wear red today. It's our last General Assembly for the year. These are the wacky, exciting and funny Benpres employees :D

It's December!

...and its 23 days before Christmas, wow...how soon time flies.
Have you noticed? Time passes by like a bullet. I'm not sure if its because I'm busy with lots of stuff or I'm getting old that's why time flies fast unlike when I was younger, or does it have something to do with God?

I'm not sure, I'll discover that later...

Anyway, for me the passing of time is an advantage. I really miss hubby and I can't wait for April 2009.

XML "geeks", here's for you.

XML, HTML, CSS, SQL? I admit I only learned about these terms when I started and get hooked with blogging. I was an advertising student in college because I hate numbers and logic. I never thought I’ll get fascinated with computers and XMLs now. Our IT department even asked for my assistance once in a while in some of their web design projects. Thanks to my little XML knowledge. If I can only turn back time, I’ll shift course. Anyway, enough of that. I’m grateful that at least I’m not that clueless about XMLs. But for those XML geeks out there, here’s for you:

5.11 Tactical Wears

Thinking of what gifts to give to my brother in laws and my father is quite tough for me. Coz when it comes to men’s gifts I’m clueless, except if they have their particular wishes. And this is my dilemma…I still don’t have any idea what to give to them. Its twenty eights days to go before Christmas and I still don’t know what to buy. I’m still on the look out and it’s giving me a headache….whew! Anyway, I’ll digress.

I was browsing the internet to look for gift ideas and I came across tactical pantsusa.com’s website. I saw their products for those 5.11 Tactical customers. What are 5.11 Tactical? These products are designed for the LA police. They are actually LA police gears but I think some of their products can be bought and worn not only buy the police but also as casual wears for ordinary men. The garments are of high quality materials like those of the shorts and polo shirts and Tactical Pants. They also have eye wears which does not only protects but also of stylish design which will definitely look good for one. These eyewear are stylish and of premium quality (these are actually designed by decorated former U.S. Navy SEAL Jeff Gonzales). They also have tactical watches that can be used by any application. The watches functions include standard chronograph features and also the revolutionary Sure Shot Ballistic Calculator.

Oh, I haven’t mentioned yet that the site offers free shipping for orders over $50. It’s always good when you can get discounts in shipping right, and it’s better if it’s free.

Anyway, I am always fascinated with how the US policemen dress up. Whenever I watch foreign action movies I am amazed of how they stand tall with their gears and stuff. I hope our policemen here wear gears like these as well.

Something for hubby

I miss giving Christmas gifts for my husband. This year, it will be the second Christmas that we’re celebrating separately. I miss thinking of what to give him and thinking of a gimmick on how to surprise him. I remember two years ago how happy he was when he opened my gift to him. He was so surprised. I wish we’ll be able to celebrate Christmas again together.

If he’s here, he’ll probably like Timberland Boots. I can remember how he fancied boots like this when he was still here. He likes shoes where he can use everywhere, anywhere so I guess this is one the best. The brand is known for its quality and durability and designed to be used not only for heavy work but also an all-weather outdoor wear.

Hubby will definitely like this one. I hope I can get one before he arrives next year.

How To Wean from Bottles?

I am determined to wean my daughter from drinking in bottles. It's hard for me especially when I begin to feel guilty that I'm depriving her of her milk at night, but I know I must do it.

I'm not sure if I was doing it right though, so I searched and found this article:

In general, children can try a cup at 6 months and be weaned off the bottle around 12 to 18 months. It does vary from child to child and it is up to the mother to decide when to encourage the change from bottle to cup. The things to look out for are when the baby can sit up for themselves; obviously drinking from a cup is going to be near impossible when baby is still lying on it's back. Also, you baby should be taking bottle feeds at regular times. You should also be noticing that your child starts to show a real interest in the food of others.

Why is it important to wean my child off the bottle?

As explained in another article, children being bottle fed are more likely to suffer from tooth decay. So, it is important to not allow your child to carry on bottle feeding longer than is necessary but don't force the issue - remember, weaning your child of bottle feeding is a gradual process. As your child develops the nutrients it requires change. It will not get these nutrients from bottle feeding alone whereas it will get more than it needs from solids. Finally, children who delay the transition from formula to solids may have difficulty developing appropriate feeding skills.

So, how do I wean my child off the bottle?

  • Wean your child during a relatively stress-free time. It is not a good idea to start when a new sibling has just arrived or when the family is moving to a new house
  • At age 8 to 10 months, substitute a 'sippy' cup for a bottle at one feeding during the day. Choose a feeding when the child usually drinks just a little, rather than a major mealtime. Use this same feeding time to use the cup every day for a week. Remember, routine is key.
  • Gradually introduce the cup at another feeding, slowly decreasing the number of bottles the child receives.
  • Be patient. Help your child to hold the cup and tip a small amount of liquid into the child's mouth.
  • Some children may need to suck as a way for them to control their behavior. This sets their mood to accomplish certain tasks such as sleeping, concentrating and running. Some children may continue to suck on a pacifier or bottles of plain water for the first few years.
  • Consistency is key to successful weaning. Be sure to give the child the cup at the designated feeding time and don't switch back to the bottle at this feeding.

What can I do to make weaning easier on my baby?

  • Offer other comforts such as a soft blanket or stuffed animal or play soothing music.
  • Spend extra time cuddling with your child during the weaning process.
  • Buy cups with handles, spouted lids or baby cups with straws to make drinking easier.
  • Be a positive role model and drink from a cup with your child.

I got this article from bottle-feeding-baby.com. I'll try to do what's instructed here and I hope I'll succeed.

Some musings

When her family migrated to Canada two years ago, my friend and sort of aunt had a hard time searching for our other friends and church mates who went there years before them. I was able to contact her to a social network website and she said that she’s thankful that there’s now a reverse phone number look up Canada which made her search for contacts quite easy. She said that now they will be organizing an event where all of them will be able to celebrate Christmas together. Well, that’s good for them.

My husband wants to work as well in Canada or perhaps migrate there since a lot of our friends are already there. But I don't like the idea. I don't want to leave the country in search for a good future. I love my country and I'm happy here.

Well, just some of my thoughts...
